In July 1930, Portsmouth, Ohio was granted an NFL franchise in recognition of the efforts made by Portsmouth residents to make their team successful. The Portsmouth eleven ended the 1930 season with a record of 5-6-3 but they had a core of players they could build upon and this became evident two years later.
